Discover the Magic
of Sensory INCLUSIon

At Inclusive Adventures ™ we focus on advocating for accessible and inclusive experiences for children with sensory sensitivities and their families, across the tri-state area.

We call for existing events, venues, and brands to offer sensory-friendly time slots. By seamlessly incorporating minor environmental changes and other sensory specific adjustments, otherwise overwhelming environments can be easily transformed into inclusive spaces where all children can comfortably explore, learn, and interact with their community.

At Inclusive Adventures, we advocate for sensory-inclusive hour-long time slots for children with sensory sensitivities and their families.

Through advocacy, we achieve ongoing community action to offer families the opportunity to experience the community in a sensory-friendly way. Minor environmental adjustments allow participants to grow their comfort level with new environments, working toward their ability to navigate these settings alongside the general public.

Sensory-sensitive timeslots typically take place when a venue is generally closed to the public, such as the hour before opening or on a closed day. This allows for minor environmental adjustments, including:

  • Low volume / traffic

  • Adjustments to lighting and music or sound levels

  • Turning off hand dryers in restrooms

  • In restaurant settings, providing limited menu options to better prepare guests for ordering and interacting with staff.

We believe in focusing on meeting individuals where they are and creating joyful, shared experiences in community environments with minor environmental adjustments to accommodate sensory needs. We celebrate all forms of communication, including AAC, speech, gestures, sign language, and facial expressions.

Sensory sensitive events and outings are typically structured to help build foundational social skills, including:

  • Understanding new environments.

  • Social cueing in new environments.

  • Comfortability in shared communication (including AAC, speech, gestures, sign language, and facial expressions) in new environments and with new people.

  • We believe in the power of autonomy. To support this, we publish social stories, visual schedules, and applicable AAC communication boards specific to community venues, events, and outings. All are posted as a free resource under “printables”.
